Welcome Baby's mission is to provide low-income mothers with one comprehensive package that contains all of the items they’ll need for their newborn in the first four weeks of life. For parents living below the poverty line, purchasing sufficient diapers and wipes is a financial burden often too great to overcome. Add in clothing, hygienic items, baby carriers, and other essential gear and the costs quickly climb to hundreds of dollars many families simply don’t have. As a result, a child may be forced to go without these vital goods.

Welcome Baby packages contain necessities, not luxuries. Each package contains the critical items needed to support a newborn’s healthy growth and development in the first four weeks of life, thereby reducing the physical, financial, and emotional consequences for low-income families.
Welcome Baby donates its newborn packages to NYU Langone Hospital, Mt. Sinai Hospital, and Northern Manhattan Perinatal Partnership, in New York; and Mercy Health and the Mahoning County Board of Health, in Ohio. Since 2018, they have provided Welcome Baby packages to new mothers and babies each month through these care providers.
Hospital social workers and trained community health workers determine which women have the greatest need and distribute the Welcome Baby packages accordingly. Given the overwhelming response, we know there are thousands more who are in need.
