Perfect for parents on a budget, the Harper was manufactured by Troll Nursery and designed with amazing value and long-term durability in mind. It's made from a combo of solid birch and birch plywood, can be converted into a toddler bed (with the purchase of our optional conversion kit), and is eco-responsible, containing non-toxic and low-VOC finishes.
Why it's a giggle pick With the Harper, we tried our best to take everything parents look for in a crib and pour it into one amazing piece of furniture, that blends together responsible manufacturing, sleek design, and impressive versatility. (You're welcome.)

Meets the following giggle Criteria:
BEST BASICS: These are the tried-and-true necessities that every new parent needs, such as burp cloths and baby bottles, plus some of those things that just make parenting a little simpler. Most of them are considered must-haves, and the rest will make your life so much easier they'll be a no-brainer. In this category, we look for convenience and functionality above all else.BEST BASICS: everyday baby essentials
MULTI-USE: Everyone wants to get the most for their money, but that doesn't always translate to the lowest price. Sometimes it means choosing one great product instead of buying multiple products over time. These products last longer and do more - whether they grow with your baby, live on beyond the baby years, or can be used for more than one purpose - so that you can always feel confident that you made a great investment.MULTI-USE: versatile & long-lasting
HEALTHY: Every parent's number-one goal is a healthy baby, and babies' developing systems are a lot more sensitive than adults. That's why we work hard to find products that won't introduce any more toxins than necessary into your home. Sometimes that means organic products that avoid pesticides and chemicals, but it also includes things like nontoxic cleaning products made from plant-based ingredients, or plastics without toxins likes BPA or phthalates.HEALTHY: made with safe or organic materials
SPACE-SAVING: Let's face it: Babies take up a lot of room. These space-saving essentials help make sure there's still enough room for everyone after the baby comes. Maybe they have a smaller footprint, or maybe they're easy to put away when you're not using them, but either way they're a whole lot easier than finding a bigger house!SPACE-SAVING: compact & easy to store
RESPONSIBLE: What's good for the world is good for our children. We put a special emphasis on environmentally friendly, "green" products that are made with nontoxic, recycled and sustainable materials. We also love products that help the communities where they're made, or that go the extra mile to support charitable causes. Plus, we love "local"!RESPONSIBLE: eco-friendly or locally produced

Formaldehyde

Q:
I'm looking for a crib with no formaldehyde. On the "Giggle Criteria" for this crib, I noticed that "Healthy" is NOT selected.

Here is the "Healthy" criterion description: "Babies are a lot more sensitive to their environment than adults, so we look for products without harmful chemicals, formaldehyde finishes and other toxins."

Which harmful chemicals or toxins are used in this crib that made it not pass the "Healthy" criterion? Is formaldehyde one of them? Thanks.

A:
Our partner in manufacturing the Harper Collection is just as committed to health and environmentally consciousness as giggle (it is one of the reasons that we selected them for manufacturing our debut giggle Better Basics furniture collection!). However, the "Healthy" criteria box is not checked for giggle's Harper collection because our current furniture assortment has not been measured by a 3rd party for health benefits.

Measurability is achieved through 3rd party certification, such as GreenGuard, and currently giggle does not offer a furniture collection that's been certified for health benefits. Although we appreciate the hard work that groups such as Greenguard are trying to do to improve to effects that products have on indoor air quality, after evaluating the costs of this additional certification we have decided at this time to not pursue certification in order to keep our high quality crib a budget-friendly option for more consumers.

You can rest assured that giggle is committed to an accessible eco-solution for a broad range of customers -- the Harper Collection uses only water-based and non-toxic (meaning no-VOC, or Volatile Organic Compounds) paints and glues that are completely free of toxins (aka. non-toxic/no-VOC). Harper's finishing process also results in a level of unmeasurable VOC emissions. Toxic VOC's result from finishing processes that use chemicals (such as formaldehyde) that are potentially toxic to an indoor environment. When we talk about a "no-VOC" finishing process we talk about "non-toxic", and use those two terms interchangeably. Everything emits VOC's; the more toxic, the more measurable. When VOC's are non-toxic, they are unmeasurable.

Additionally, this collection is made from sustainably harvested timber and is manufactured in a facility that utilizes timber waste rather than electricity to efficiently heat their timber kilns and workshops, with remaining waste used to make timber briquettes which are an efficient and eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels.

giggle is continually looking for new ways to reduce our environmental footprint, and we remain committed - together with our partners - to setting the standard for children's products in the industry and at every price level.

Mattress Size

Q:
I am new to shopping for baby items as this is my first baby. I love this crib and want to know what size mattress to get for the crib. I see alot of "standard mattress" thrown around, but am unsure of the measurements. Can you please tell me what measurements are in a standard size mattress and if it would fit this crib. I'm assuming this crib does not come with a mattress.

Thank you,

giggle's Better Basics Harper Crib is a standard crib that measures 28" x 52", and fits both standard crib mattresses (that measure at least 27 1/4"W x 51 5/8"L x 4" to 6"D) AND standard crib bedding.

To build a safe sleep environment, giggle recommends:

1. A firm, snug-fitting mattress (remember, no more than two-fingers width of space between the mattress and the crib's interior side!), such as giggle's Better Basics Organic Cotton Crib Mattress.
2. A waterproof mattress pad, like giggle's Better Basics Waterproof Crib Mattress Pad, for easy mess clean-up
3. Fitted crib sheets, like giggle's Better Basics Fitted Crib Sheets, with a deep pocket for the safest sleep environment.

My daughter can stand in the crib on its lowest setting. Her face is rail height. I read materials summary on line, but don't know what low-VOC is, or if I should be concerned. Please advise, and any thoughts/advice appreciated.

A:
giggle's Harper Crib mattress support, over which your crib skirt would be placed, has curved, rather than square, corners. This means that the corners touch more of the crib sides, and may cause your crib skirt to not be flush in the crib's corners. We encourage you to visit your local neighborhood giggle store to check-out Harper, and determine whether your crib skirt will fit to your expectations.

All cribs are equipped with a variable height mattress support, and giggle's Harper Crib has three positions. From newborn to approximately 6 months, or when the child begins showing signs of active movement, the mattress support should be installed in the uppermost position to facilitate safely, and easily putting a new baby in their crib. You'll lower the mattress support when the child begins moving-- the Consumer Product Safety Commission requires a minimum rail height of 26” measured from the top of the railing to the mattress support at its lowest position to help prevent active infants from falling out of the crib

The maximum useful life of a crib is anywhere from the child’s 18 month milestone, to age 4. A key indicator that a child is ready to move from a crib to a bed is they begin to show interest in climbing out of the crib. Install a crib conversion kit/toddler rail to extend the life of a crib, and keep curious toddlers safe.
