Pleated crib skirt

Q:
I'm about to buy a pleated crib skirt but after assembly I'm worried that it may not fit properly in the corners. Has there been any compatibility issues with crib skirts?

A:
giggle's Harper Crib mattress support, over which your crib skirt would be placed, has curved, rather than square, corners. This means that the corners touch more of the crib sides, and may cause your crib skirt to not be flush in the crib's corners. We encourage you to visit your local neighborhood giggle store to check-out Harper, and determine whether your crib skirt will fit to your expectations.

A:
Our partner in manufacturing the Harper Collection is as committed to health and environmentally consciousness as giggle. It is one of the reasons that we selected them for manufacturing our debut giggle Better Basics furniture collection!

Although we work appreciate the hard work that Greenguard is trying to do on to improve indoor air quality, after evaluating the costs of this additional certification we have decided at this time to not pursue Grenguard certification in order to keep our high quality crib a budget-friendly option for more consumers.

You can rest assured that giggle is committed to an accessible eco-solution for a broad range of customers -- the Harper Collection uses only water-based and non-toxic (meaning no-VOC) paints and glues. Moreover, this collection is made from sustainably harvested timber and is manufactured in a facility that utilizes timber waste rather than electricity to efficiently heat their timber kilns and workshops, with remaining waste used to make timber briquettes which are an efficient and eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels.

giggle is continually looking for new ways to reduce our environmental footprint, and we remain committed - together with our partners - to setting the standard for children's products in the industry and at every price level.

A:
giggle's Better Basics Harper Crib is a standard crib that measures 28" x 52", and fits both standard crib mattresses (that measure at least 27 1/4" x 51 5/8") AND standard crib bedding.

To build a safe sleep environment, giggle recommends the following crib bedding "must haves":

1. A firm, snug-fitting mattress, such as giggle's Better Basics Organic Cotton Crib Mattress (or, any of the crib mattresses in giggle's assortment -- they're all firm and snug-fitting!).
2. A waterproof mattress pad, like giggle's Better Basics Organic Cotton Crib Mattress Pad, for easy mess clean-up.
3. Fitted crib sheets, like giggle's Better Basics Fitted Crib Sheets, with a deep pocket and elastic surround to make sure sheets stay-put.

Q:
Why is the mattress so high up? It seems as if the baby would eventually be able to climb out quite easily. Other cribs seem to have it much lower. I really like the design of this one, but am wondering about the mattress height. Thanks!

A:
All cribs are equipped with a variable height mattress support, and giggle's Harper Crib has three positions. From newborn to approximately 6 months, or when the child begins showing signs of active movement, the mattress support should be installed in the uppermost position to facilitate safely, and easily putting a new baby in their crib. You'll lower the mattress support when the child begins moving-- the Consumer Product Safety Commission requires a minimum rail height of 26” measured from the top of the railing to the mattress support at its lowest position to help prevent active infants from falling out of the crib

The maximum useful life of a crib is anywhere from the child’s 18 month milestone, to age 4. A key indicator that a child is ready to move from a crib to a bed is they begin to show interest in climbing out of the crib. Install a crib conversion kit/toddler rail to extend the life of a crib, and keep curious toddlers safe. Follow the link to view giggle's Harper Crib converted into a toddler bed to learn more, and view it here shown with the mattress in the lowest position:

giggle's Better Basics Harper Crib begins as a crib, and will convert into a toddler bed with the addition of giggle's Better Basics Harper Crib Conversion Kit. The addition of the Conversion Kit is an easy way to extend the life of your crib and get several more years of use out of it prior to transitioning to a "big kid" bed.

Every crib we sell at giggle meets or exceeds the highest standards required. One of the things we’re most proud of at giggle, is our commitment to being a trusted partner to new parents. Read our giggle Criteria to learn more about how we pick every giggle product:

http://www.giggle.com/giggle-Criter...

Like every other company selling cribs today, we are not in a position to say the cribs we sell are “certified” under the CPSC’s new law that goes into effect in July 2011. The reason is because the CPSC has just recently certified testing labs to be able to provide those certifications; until the labs catch up, manufacturers cannot post compliance certificates with the new laws. Every line available on the market is now being resubmitted for testing between now and the end of June. For more information about this transition, please visit our Safety Bulletin on the CPSC’s FAQs on the new crib standards and the industry’s transition.

We absolutely stand behind every product we sell. You can and should feel very confident in your giggle Better Basics Harper crib purchase as a smart and safe sleeping solution for your child.
