Rated 4 out of 5 by Nyogen Too bad it isn't bigger!
Being Manhattanites who don't own a car, we've only used this seat without the base. Installed with just a lap belt, we can very easily and quickly get a fit where the seat doesn't budge and feels very safe.
I wish they made this to handle a baby up to 32" like the snugride 35. This is way more attractive than all other 35lb car seats out there and is very lightweight. Our munchkin has grown quickly since birth (90th percentile at 3 mo) and may very well grow out of this before he is 5 months old.

Rated 4 out of 5 by mayaon Overall, very good infant car seat
We have been using the Mico for our son since he was born and we are quite pleased with it. I mostly use it with our Stokke Xplory stroller (with the adapter) and it is very user-friendly--very easy to take on/off when getting in and out of NYC cabs. We have also taken 2 flights with the Mico--it fits on the airplane seat nicely and securely (it is FAA-approved).
My only complaint about the Mico is that the canopy is completely inadequate for keeping the sunlight out of the baby's face and body.

Rated 5 out of 5 by TooSweetMom Wow, what a life saver!
I love my Mico -- it's lightweight, easy to install, and my baby ooohs and coohs everytime we take a ride. The fabric is easy to keep clean, the harness adjustment works like a dream, and the canopy is ideal on sunny days. A perfect product at a great price!

Rated 2 out of 5 by CoolMom Not easy to adjust and awkward to hold
We bought the Maxi Cosi in gray because we thought it was the lightest on the market, and it definitely was the best looking. But it ended up being difficult to carry because of how the arm handle is positioned. And we found it hard to adjust. I don't think we will be using it for baby #2. Also, it didn't get the best ratings when I did more research (unfortunately, after we made the purchase).

Rated 4 out of 5 by ahmj A comfortable carseat (I think!)
It's lightweight and a nice comfortable seat for our baby (and safe!) the only thing I would change it shortening the handle length...it's hard to carry if you're short like me!

Rated 4 out of 5 by swy54 Lightweight, but hard to get out of the car.
Bought this seat because it was lightweight, but the awkward bent handle makes it very hard to carry, especially as baby gets heavier. Also, it's difficult and awkward to get out of the car. If your baby is on the larger side, it's kind of tight and makes it tough to get the harness on without rolling the baby around.
Overall I've been happy with it. I don't have experience with any other infant seat to compare it to, but this one did its job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by surfmom Sturdy, Lightweight
Great infant car seat! No troubles with the latch; getting the car seat in and out of the base is a breeze. Love the construct, the way it looks, and the fact that its lightweight yet sturdy. I use it with the Bugaboo Bee and have had people ask me about the car seat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BostonMamaLovesGiggle Lightweight, easy to use
I don't understand the other reviews posted here about this car seat. This car seat is very easy to move in and out of the car, it releases with one pull on a lever at the back of the car seat and you simply lift the seat up from the base. No pulling or tugging... It's also easy for me to get my infant son in and out of it- the straps are easily adjustable and I don't have any trouble with the 5 point harness system. It's lightweight, and fits in the center backseat of my car- which the Graco Snugride 35 does not.

I have the Mico from 2009. While I know someone will probably wag a finger for safety concerns, is there any way to switch and buy (more importantly) a 2011 cover? I have a baby girl on the way and originally bought the Mico in a color more suited for my son. If so, where are the covers sold without the seat? Thanks!
Answers
A:
There comes a time when a car seat's cover just needs to be replaced -- multiple child use, wear-and-tear, and color updates are just a few of the reasons why parents would switch-out their car seat cover. You'll want to replace your existing cover with one tested and approved for use on your specific car seat model:1. Locate the car seat's model and serial number -- these can be found on a manufacturer sticker on the car seat's outer plastic shell.
2. With the car seat's model and serial number handy, directly contact the manufacturer of your car seat for assistance with buying a new cover.
Remember, your car seat's integrity is affected anytime you add or take away a component. To maintain the integrity, and ensure that your child is riding as safe as possible, use only new parts that have been tested and approved for use with your seat.
Q:
I registered for and received the Mico infant car seat as a gift. I really liked this one best until a friend of mine told me that the most helpful thing on her car seat was the retractable sun screen so that the sun would not get in the baby's eyes. Do you know if the Mico has a retractable sun screen that you can buy separately? I can not find any information on this. If not, I may consider exchanging this car seat. I would greatly appreciate your help. Best, AmieAnswers
A:
MaxiCosi's Mico Infant Car Seat includes a multi-position, rotating canopy (which is made from the same charcoal grey fabric as the car seat's cover) for maximum sun coverage. For additional weather protection (including sun, rain, wind, and even bugs!), you may also consider adding UppaBaby's Cabana which provides bubble-like protection, easily popping open to fit over most infant car seats, includuing MaxiCosi's Mico.
Q:
Do I need to buy the base if I am only using this car seat in taxis? And if I hire a car, do I need the base?Answers
A:
Maxi Cosi's Mico Infant Car Seat includes one base that will be installed (and, preferably, stay!), in your primary vehicle. When you're travelling via mass transit (whether it's air, taxi, or hired car) you may elect to leave Mico's base at home in your primary vehicle to lighten your load. Install Mico's infant carrier (the part that the baby rides in) by lacing the vechicle seat-belt through the Mico's top seat belt path.We encourage our customers to visit their neighborhood giggle location for a full consultation, and tutorial, on this and all other gear and equipment!

Is maxi cosi mico approved for travel with airplane? And do we have to use the base in airplane? Thanks!Answers
A:
The Mico car seat is certified for aircraft use. Use on forward-facing aircraft seats only and in a position where the lap belt can be tightened securely. This child restraint is installed in an aircraft seat the same way it is installed in a vehicle.Use the child restraint only with F.A.A. certified equipment. Contact the airline prior to taking a child restraint on board in order to comply with their specific regulations.
Q:
Is the Maxi-Cosi seat compatible with any "universal" stroller frames such as the Maclaren Easy Traveler, Baby Trend's Snap-n-Go, and the like?Answers
A:
Because of the difference in approach to the base than most US-designed car seat, no, at this time, this infant car seat is not compatible with most universal frames. Due to the Maxi-Cosi's popularity as the #1 infant car seat throughout Europe, more and more strollers are working to provide custom and universal adapters to fit the Maxi-Cosi and we expect to see more in 2011. For now, both the Bugaboo Bee and the UppaBaby support the Maxi-Cosi with custom adapters.Q:
Is this car seat compatible with the Uppa baby Vista? If so which adapter do I need to go with it?
Answers
A:
Yes, the Uppa Vista is compatible with the Maxi Cosi Infant Car Seat. Uppa makes the following Maxi Cosi car seat adapter.Products from my answer
