Rated 5 out of 5 by MomNY Great Mattress This mattress is very easy to keep clean and it is also not too heavy. I have an easy time changing the sheets without breaking my back!! and it is still organic. I know it is a bit expensive but it is totally worth it when it comes to your babies first sleeping experience....it is amazing how much time they spend sleeping!!! May 27, 2009
Rated 1 out of 5 by TribecaMama do NOT buy. This is the worst baby product I bought. The mattress is SOOOO heavy. Every time I need to change the sheet I want to cry. It seems like not a big deal when the crib is up high...but when you lower the crib to the midlevel or lowest level and you have to change the sheet, it becomes impossible. June 8, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Colleen Avoid Toxic Chemicals Where Your Baby Sleeps A few years ago I read a very interesting book about the impact chemicals are having on our health. In that book there was a section on SIDS and a possible connection with fire retardant chemicals. A chemist in New Zealand made a persuasive argument that toxic chemicals like fire retardants interact with the heat from the child's body and a fungus that commonly grows in bedding. It creates a gas that asphyxiates the baby. This would make sense considering parents were told for so many years to have their babies sleep on their stomachs. They found that SIDS cases fell 48 percent once they instituted a new campaign to encourage parents to wrap the crib mattress in airtight protective coverings. Maybe there is truth to this SIDS argument and maybe not, I cannot say. But I always like to avoid chemicals on or around my baby when possible so I chose this organic cotton mattress. Why bother with organic cotton pajamas and sheets if your mattress is covered in flame retardents and other chemicals? I am very happy with this mattress and the other products I've purchased from Giggle and plan on buying more for baby #2. Thank you! May 27, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Graciella We have two! We were so pleased with the first one, we had to get another when the second child came. And we've never regreted either purchase for a moment. April 23, 2009

Q:I'm so pleased to have found this perfectly non-toxic seeming mattress. I would just like to double check that :
1. the wool has not been chemically treated to boost fire resistance and
2. There is no boric acid used in this product
A:giggle is proud to say that our mattress assortment is complete chemical free! The good news is that your question about chemicals vs. not chemicals with flame retardants in mattresses is pretty easy to answer. Bottom line is that when any chemicals are used to achieve flame retardant standards (which, by the way, are mandatory federal regulations), they fall into the group of what you’re concerned about as “toxic.” Hence the reason so many groups have worked to develop – in addition to nature fiber options like pure grow wool – weaves and methodologies of fabrication that achieve the flammability standard so that they can avoid their use altogether. In our world of mattresses, we use only the latter.
And, not only is OMI's Organic Cotton & Wool Crib Mattress chemical-free, it's also certified above and beyond U.S.A. CPSC and ASTM requirements! This premium crib mattress (it even has a quilted cover just like Mom and Dad's!) is GreenGuard Certified, Global Organic Textile Standard Certified, and boasts Eco-Wool™ Certified filling giving parents an extra assurance that they're building a healthy sleep environment for their children!
Q:Is this for and infant and a toddler? What is the max weight?
A:OMI's Cotton/Wool Mattress innerspring system is a super-firm 1000 coil count system (which is more then even most adult size innerspring mattresses!), and it will support up to approximately 200 lbs....which means that parents can rest well knowing that their child is sleeping on this responsibly healthy baby basic!
Q:Do organic crib mattresses, such as this OMI, not have fire-retardants on it? I thought by law, all cribs were required to have them but would love to find one that is free of them.
A:All crib mattresses have to meet the flame retardant laws, no questions asked. However, retardants are not the only way to meet the required standards. Certain fabrics (like pure grow wool ) and/or weaves (like how this organic cotton cover is woven) achieve the required flammability standards without any added retardants. Specifically, this mattresses’ non-toxic crib mattress is quilted with eco-wool padding, which provides natural flame resistance without chemicals. So yes, this awesome OMI Organic Cotton & Wool Crib Mattress meets and exceeds all relevant standards, including the flammability standards, but is free of any/all flame retardant chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, petrochemicals, or other chemicals.
Q:Does one need a mattress pad/cover for this?
A:Need, no. Recommended, yes. Why? A mattress pad guards against the inevitable leaks and will help preserve the long-term condition of your beautiful OMI mattress.

Q:Which would you say is more comfortable: this one or the Natural Mat Coco Mat Organic Crib Mattress?
A:Let me start by saying that, since both mattresses have our stamp of approval, you can’t go wrong with either one. These two are both comfortable, but with a different feel. It’s really just a matter of personal preference
The Coco Mat mattress is made up of coconut husks that are sandwiched between layers of lambs’ wool, and this combination makes the mattress extremely firm, which parents love. The OMI cotton and wool mattress is also very supportive, due to the inner coils, and the organic cotton cover gives it as plush a finish for baby as you will find. (And just for the record, this is the mattress our very own CEO, Ali Wing, chose for her son!)
