Rated 4 out of 5 Good for what it is This seat is heavy as heck, and only gets heavier as your child grows in it. Also, my son grew out of his at about 10 months, way before he reached 35 lb. The lighter 25 might be a better option unless your child is very heavy. Although the material gets very hot in the summer, and the seat is very heavy, I think these downsides are not as important as safety. We were happy with this carseat at the end of the day. Rated 4 out of 5 Practical choice We are totally pleased with this car seat. We used it for the first year of my oldest son's life and have recently passed it down to his younger brother. The biggest pros for us were ease of use and compatibility with our stroller (Micralite). Also, I love that the fabric covering can be tossed in the washer and drier; however, it comes at a cost. The fabric is really warm and does not breathe. My kids always have sweaty backs if they spend a prolonged amount of time in the seat. December 11, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Safe, secure car seat I love the Graco SnugRide. Its a safe and secure seat for any infant. Its gray color is a nice neutral and the fabric holds up nicely. It can fit in most strollers and I used it for the bob and uppa baby vista which I found super convenient. March 19, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 Perfect Carseat Received this carseat as a gift and love it! I use it in the car with a snap and go stroller and also with the adaptor and uppababy stroller. Perfect in all situations. My daughter is tall for her age and have had no issues with her still fitting comfortably in this at 6+ months. March 19, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works Great Seems comfy and easily adjust to our growing baby. We bought this car seat because it goes up to 35 lbs, the sleek charcoal color and great safety ratings. We have a stroller adapter and love being able to go from car, to stroller, to grocery cart, all very easily! March 18, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Obvious Choice Best infant car seat. So easy to transfer back and forth from car to stroller. I never used the bassinet on the stroller b/c both my kids liked being in the car seat more. A no brainer. March 18, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Car Seat Bought this car seat for my newborn and have been using it since she was a week old. Very sturdy yet plush for the baby. She loves it and falls instantly asleep once in it. Provides ample shade for stroller rides and easy to use. Couldn't ask for more. Good value at the price. March 18, 2012

Can you provide more details regarding the SnugRide 35's top ratings across the board for safety? From what entity has it received such ratings? I checked Consumer Reports and it listed the Chicco KeyFit 30 as tops overall, including safety, whereas Snugride 35 was much lower. At this point, I'm interested in the SnugRide 35, but I'm leaning toward the KeyFit 30. Thanks.

Staff Answer
All of us at giggle wholeheartedly agree that safety is the most important consideration when choosing, and using a car seat. All car seats sold in the U.S. market are rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and must meet Federal Safety Standards & strict crash performance standards. giggle believes that a child is most safe when:

•Riding in a NHTSA-certified child restraint
•A parent uses a child restraint for the period of time instructed by a state’s law – states regulate the use of child restraints. Each state sets their own “best practice” laws for child restraints, regulating how, and for how long a child restraint is used.
•The child restraint has been properly installed according the manufacturer instructions.

While all NHTSA-certifed seats are safe, they will differ in their ease of use in four basic categories, also evaluated by NHTSA:

■Evaluation of Instructions: Examines the content and clarity of the instruction manual for the restraint.
■Vehicle Installation Features: Examines the ease of using features that pertain to installing the child restraint in a vehicle.
■Evaluation of Labels: Examines the content and clarity of the labeling attached to the child restraint.
■Securing the Child: Examines the ease of using features that pertain to securing a child correctly in the restraint.

Consumers can use NHTSA's Ease-of-Use program to help them evaluate the categories that are most important to them and select a child restraint that best fits their needs.

Parents should evaluate the following key selling features of Chicco's KeyFit 30 and Graco's SnugRide 35 and decide which best fits their car seat preferences:

--Chicco's KeyFit 30 is easy to install and lightweight, and a top performer in Consumer Reports for “Ease of Use”.
--Graco's SnugRide 35 is a longtime best selling car seat in the U.S. market, is easy to use, and offers the best overall longevity, PLUS is a top performer in Consumer Reports for “overall value”.
