Rated 3 out of 5 by CaliforniaMom Next step playmat This mat has lots of cool things for babies to engage with--crinkly flaps, mirror, plastic rings on a tab, but may have been better for a baby who is more interested in looking at things for a long time or less mobile in general. My baby started crawling attempts by 6 months and this mat would get totally bunched up underneath her, making it difficult for her to move. The playmats that have the arcs attached (to hang toys off of) are taut thanks to the tension of the rods, but this mat has nothing to hold it in place with an uncoordinated baby's progression accross it. That said, she liked the little rings and the crinkly parts when I would show them to her, but we didn't end up keeping this toy out for long. My friend's baby was a much later crawler and a more peaceful baby in general and I think she probably would have gotten more use out of a mat like this. May 25, 2013
